Tips for Successful Library Collaboration:

  • Invite the teacher librarian to become a partner in the planning process. Set and discuss expectations early so library instruction can be integrated with content instruction. Share your project/unit goals at the beginning of the process.

  • Know what skills are needed for students to successfully complete the assignment/project. What do your students need to know? What do your students need to be able to do?

  • Consider assessment. What criteria will students be expected to meet? How will you assess whether or not they have met their research objectives? What lessons might the teacher librarian deliver in support of these objectives?

  • Provide feedback. Let the teacher librarian know what worked well and what didn't work for your students. Share thoughts regarding how students benefited from the librarian-teacher collaboration.
